Mumbai Indians (MI) made a bold call to feature their star batter Rohit Sharma for the full match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, reversing their decision from the previous game where the premier batter was used as an impact substitute against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The return of Rohit to the playing XI sparked excitement among MI fans, especially as the side looked to bounce back from their opening defeat.

Taking the field at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, both teams were desperate to secure their first win of the season. While MI chose to bowl first after winning the toss, the inclusion of Rohit Sharma grabbed headlines. Adding to the intrigue was the return of regular skipper Hardik Pandya, who missed the opening clash against CSK due to suspension. IPL 2025, GT vs MI: Score and updates

One surprising omission from MI’s lineup was 20-year-old spinner Vignesh Puthur, who had impressed with a three-wicket haul on debut against CSK. Instead, MI opted for the experience of Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, perhaps favouring his proven ability to contain runs on a flat deck.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, remained unchanged from their opening loss to Punjab Kings, meaning Glenn Phillips once again missed out on the playing XI. With GT already fielding four overseas stars in Jos Buttler, Sherfaine Rutherford, Rashid Khan, and Kagiso Rabada, there was no room for Phillips as an impact substitute either.
