Jasprit Bumrah's absence in Ranchi will put pressure on Mohammed Siraj: Hogg

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has said that there will be a lot of pressure on Mohammed Siraj in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth Test of their five-match series against England at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on February 23.

Bumrah is all set to miss India’s fourth Test against England in Ranchi due to workload concerns. The 30-year-old has been the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Test series, having claimed 17 wickets in the first three Tests.

Speaking on his Youtube channel ahead of the fourth Test, Hogg said Bumrah has been the best pacer in the series and his absence will put pressure on Siraj. Bumrah picked six wickets in Hyderabad, nine wickets in Vizag and two wickets in Rajkot.

“Bumrah not playing the next match is obviously going to play in the hands of England. Getting a bit of reverse swing, he is probably the best fast bowler in this Test series. It is going to cause India some problems going into the next game. It is going to put a lot of pressure on Siraj,” said Hogg.

He went on to say that it’s important to manage Bumrah’s workload, while insisting that Mumbai Indians won’t do well in the Indian Premier League if Bumrah misses out. Bumrah has claimed 145 wickets in 121 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians and has been crucial to their recent success.

“You have to manage his workload. As a fast bowler, playing all three formats is the toughest thing in cricket. You need to preserve him for the T20 World Cup around the corner. Mumbai Indians need him too in the IPL. If they miss him, they won’t be doing well either,” Hogg added.

Having thrashed England by 434 runs in Rajkot, India will be hoping to keep their winning momentum going and seal the Test series in Ranchi. They currently lead in the five-match Test series 2-1.
