Two militants and a CRPF personnel were killed in an encounter that broke out early Tuesday in Bandzoo area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the site.

Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar told India Today TV that in the ongoing encounter “two unidentified militants have been killed so far”.

The CRPF head constable was critically injured but later succumbed to the injuries. He received gunshot wounds when terrorists opened fired during the cordon operation.

A joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles and the 182 CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Bandzoo.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering an encounter.

The operation is still underway.
