The UP Police on Saturday formed 20 dedicated teams with a total of over 200 police personnel across the state who are involved in a grand effort to nab the dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey.

This has been done after the gruesome killing of eight policemen, including a DSP, in Bikru village — located almost 45 kilometres from the district headquarters of Kanpur — where a police team that were on their way to arrest Dubey were attacked and killed in an ambush.

The incident, first of its kind in a few decades in UP, has completely shaken up the state administration. In an unprecedented step on Saturday, the Yogi Adityanath government, started the manhunt for Dubey, by demolishing the his house that was spread on two bighas of land and also smashed the two luxury SUV vehicles and two tractors parked there. A 12-ft high boundary wall with barbed wires was also razed, as hundreds of policemen stood guard around the property and the village.

The state has also sounded an alert throughout the state and policemen have been spread out to nap Dubey. On Saturday, over 100people were taken into custody for questioning. Station Officer of the concerning area, Vinay Tiwari, was also suspended on Saturday and he is also being questioned for his suspected involvement in alarming Vikas Dubey before the police raid on Friday night. The UP Police believe that someone from the department had tipped off Dubey, and that led to the attack on the policemen.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also directed all senior police officers to take whatever steps are required to tackle criminal activities within the state. The nabbing of Dubey has become a matter of prestige for the UP govt, with the Opposition on Saturday coming hard at the law and order situation in the state. Keeping this in mind the police teams are working round the clock.

CM Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to the policemen who sacrificed their lives on Saturday.
