UDUPI: Two of five students, who had approached the court over the hijab row from the Government PU College for girls, collected their hall tickets for the II PU examination at the last minute but they were not allowed to write the exam at the centre since they wanted to appear wearing hijab.
Second PU commerce students Aliya and Resham had to write the Business Studies paper on Friday. They had collected their hall tickets from Government PU College for girls in the morning. Later, both of them arrived at the Vidyodaya PU College, Udupi, where they were allotted the exam centre, at around 10.45am. Though they entered the exam centre, authorities did not allow them to write the exam wearing hijab.
The college authorities tried to convince the girls about the high court order and asked them to write the exam without wearing hijab. However, they refused to write the exam without wearing a hijab.
Principal of the Government PU College for girls Rudre Gowda said the college would issue hall tickets even if they reach on the last day of the exam.
It may be recalled that two of the six students Almas and Aliya Assadi had tweeted the minister of primary and secondary education BC Nagesh and chief minister Basavaraj Bommai for permission to write the exam.
