NEW DELHI: Militants shot dead a sarpanch in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Baramulla district on Friday, officials said.
Manzoor Ahmad Bangroo was shot at by the ultras at Goshbug in Pattan area. Initially, police said Bangroo was from the BJP but later clarified that he was not affiliated to any party. The officials said Bangroo was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“Terrorists fired upon independent sarpanch Manzoor Ahmad in Baramulla, leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” the J&K Police said, adding: “Area cordoned off and search to track the involved (militants) is in progress.”
