India batter KL Rahul’s dismissal on Day 1 of the 1st Test at Optus Stadium in Perth has sparked controversy. The cricketing world stand divided over the contentious call of giving Rahul out. However, many former India cricketers fumed over the third umpire’s decision. Rahul, who looked solid while opening, was involved in a controversial decision. The incident happened during the 23rd over of India’s batting when the team was already struggling, having lost three quick wickets. Rahul had scored a hard-fought 26 and was looking to tire the Australian bowlers, who were breathing fire on the pacy and bouncy pitch of Perth.

Rahul looked to defend Mitchell Starc’s delivery that angled across him. The ball went close past his bat and was caught by Alex Carey behind the wickets. The Australians appealed and the on-field umpires ruled it not out. The review showed a spike on Snicko, which indicated contact of the ball with the bat. However, it remained inconclusive if the noise came from the pad first or the bat. Despite ambiguity over the same, the third umpire gave Rahul out.
