A 55-year-old man threw his neighbours’ two children off the roof of a four-storey building in central Kolkata’s Burrabazar area on Sunday after a heated argument. A two-year-old boy died, while, six-year-old got injured after being thrown off the roof.

The incident took place at 113 Netaji Subhas Road in Burrabazar area of Kolkata, West Bengal.

Preliminary enquiry revealed that the arrested man had a dispute with the father of the deceased child around a fortnight ago. On Sunday, the two neighbours got into a fight again, and, one of them got so angry that he picked up a two-year-old and a six-year-old child and threw them off from the four-storeyed building.

The children were rushed to the hospital but the two-year-old child was declared brought dead.

Burrabazar is one of the most populated area of Kolkata, with small rooms in old buildings.

“Two boys – aged two years and six years – fell down or were thrown off the fourth floor of a building. When they were taken to a hospital, the two-year-old was declared brought dead,” Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Murlidhar Sharma said.

Locals, as well as family members of the two, alleged that a man had thrown the two from the roof of the building, he said.

“The man was arrested and is being interrogated. Strong legal action will be taken against the culprit,” Sharma said.
