  • I’ll bat my own way, thanks: MS Dhoni told Michael Hussey
  • MS’s credit, after the game, he was absolutely fantastic: Hussey

Former Australia batsman Michael Hussey revealed that MS Dhoni had reacted angrily after one of his tips as CSK batting coach led to skipper’s dismissal during an IPL 2018 match. Hussey also shared how MS Dhoni shunned his advice on how to tackle Rashid Khan in the IPL 2018 Qualifier 1 match in Mumbai.

PL 2018 was special for MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings and every CSK fan as the franchise was making a comeback in the cash-rich league after 2 years. Chennai Super Kings made an emotional return to the IPL after serving out their two-year suspension for spot-fixing by going all the way and lifting the trophy for the first time since 2011.

CSK’s batting coach Michael Hussey had shared few inputs with MS Dhoni for tackling Rashid but the skipper overlooked his advice.

“Rashid Khan comes on to bowl, one of the very first balls he (Dhoni) faces, goes for the big cover drive wrong ‘un, bowled through the gate. And I’m thinking ‘Uh, gosh. Okay, no worries.’ And MS walks straight off the field, and I am sitting in the dugout and he walks straight up to me and says ‘I’ll bat my own way, thanks,’ and sits back down,” Michael Hussey was quoted as saying on the Lessons Learnt with the Greats podcast.

“As a coach, I thought my days are over forever! But, to MS’s credit, after the game, he was absolutely fantastic. He came up and spoke to me and we had a good chat. He said that the information was correct, but for him, he needed time to go away and process it and practice it.”
