MS Dhoni faces defamation suit filed by his ex-business partners, hearing on Jan 29
The Delhi High Court will on January 29 hear a defamation suit against World Cup-winning former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni filed by his former business partners.
On Thursday, the high court asked the registrar to inform Dhoni about the case against him.
A bench of Justice Pratibha Singh deemed it appropriate to directly inform Dhoni of the filing of the present suit.
The court asked the registrar to issue an email to him and send an intimation to the law firm representing him.
Mihir Diwakar and Soumya Das, former business partners of Dhoni, have filed a defamation suit against him in the Delhi High Court. They have also filed the suit against Meta, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Google and several other media houses and web portals.
In this suit, Diwakar and Das were seeking a permanent injunction and damages from Dhoni, social media platforms and media houses, and preventing them from publishing defamatory, false, and malicious statements against them.
The case seeks to restrain the defendants from harming their reputation based on Dhoni’s alleged false accusations of illegal gains of Rs 15 crore and a breach of a 2017 contract.
Dhoni recently filed a criminal case against Diwakar and Das in a Ranchi lower court, accusing them of defrauding him of roughly Rs 16 crore by failing to fulfil a contract to establish cricket academies.
The case was filed against the directors of Aarka Sports, a sports management company, under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The couple were reportedly friends with Dhoni and Diwakar and even played in the Ranji Trophy with the former Indian cricket captain.
