Netflix is increasing prices again across plans: New pricing, price hike timeline and all other details – The Times of India
Netflix is increasing price across all subscription tiers in the United States, including the first-ever hike for its ad-supported plan.
The standard ad-free plan will see the largest increase, jumping $2.50 to $17.99 per month. The ad-supported tier will rise by $1 to $7.99, while the premium plan will increase by $2 to $24.99 monthly. The changes take effect immediately for new subscribers and will roll out to existing customers in their next billing cycle.
“As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix,” the company stated in its letter to investors.
The price hikes coincide with Netflix’s announcement of adding 18.9 million subscribers in Q4 2024, its largest quarterly increase ever, bringing its global subscriber count to 300 million. The company’s co-CEO Greg Peters defended the pricing strategy, particularly for the ad-supported tier: “We believe that our starting price, even after the price increase, is an incredible entertainment value. And it’s a highly accessible entry point.”
This marks Netflix’s first price adjustment since October 2023, when it increased costs for its basic and premium plans while maintaining the prices of its standard and ad-supported tiers. The streaming service also revealed that over 55% of new sign-ups in markets where advertising is available opted for the ad-supported plan in Q4.
The price increases will also affect subscribers in Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. Netflix has raised its 2025 revenue outlook to between $43.5 billion and $44.5 billion, up $500 million from its previous forecast, while projecting an operating margin of 29%.
