New Zealand’s limited-overs tour of Ireland postponed due to coronavirus | Cricket News

[ad_1]

Cricket Ireland has announced that the national side’s home limited-overs fixtures against New Zealand have been postponed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic that has brought the entire world to standstill.

The decision was taken after a ‘virtual’ board meeting took place on Wednesday to discuss a number of significant issues related to impacts on operations and events in 2020 from COVID-19.

Following the meeting, it was decided that the three-match T20I series and as many ODI matches between Ireland and New Zealand slated to take place between June 19 to July 2 have been postponed.

Reflecting on the same, Cricket Ireland Chief Executive Warren Deutrom stressed that it had become impossible to go ahead with the New Zealand series as per schedule following the announcement of the Irish government on lifting of restrictions on May 1.

“It had become fairly obvious following the recent series of Government announcements in the Republic and UK that the New Zealand series was not feasible. We had also said previously that the fate of some fixtures could be dependent upon decisions by the travelling team’s government. That is what has happened in this instance – we were taking the recommendation to yesterday’s Board Meeting to postpone the series in any case, however, on the eve of the meeting New Zealand Cricket (NZC) contacted us to inform us that they could not travel. While of course it’s disappointing for the fans in Northern Ireland who I know were looking forward to the visit of the World Cup runners-up, given the circumstances we entirely understand NZC was left with no choice but to stay at home,” Cricket Ireland official website quoted Deutron as saying.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief executive David White, on the other hand, said that the board is hopeful to reschedule the series between the two sides once the situation returns to normal.

“These are extremely difficult times for international cricket and we feel deeply for our friends in the northern hemisphere, whose season has been so badly disrupted. I know our players, support staff and BLACKCAPS fans were very much looking forward to the upcoming visit and are disappointed this decision needed to be taken. Hopefully, in brighter and less dangerous times, we can return and play the games that have been postponed,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s three-match ODI series against England scheduled to be played in England in September is under active discussion and likely to be moved from their original dates.

Earlier, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had further suspended professional cricket in the country until July 1 in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

Ravindra Jadeja performs his signature sword celebration, once again asks fans to stay home | Cricket News

[ad_1]

While India continues its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has said that there is still a long way to go in the battle against the COVID-19 and, therefore, everyone should play their part by staying home.

As the novel virus has brought all the sporting activities across the world at halt, the cricketers are switching to various social media platform to keep its fans entertained these days by either sharing their day-to-day activities or spreading awareness regarding the coronavirus.

Recently, Jadeja took to his official Instagram handle and posted a video of him performing his signature sword celebration, which he does everytime after achieving a milestone on the field.

Besides swinging his bat, Jadeja also said that he is staying home in order to fight against COVID-19 while also urging his fans to follow the same.

“There is still a long way to go in this battle against COVID-19. We all got to do our part by staying home to help save lives,” Jadeja, who could be seen donning the Indian jersey, wrote along with the video.

On April 30, Jadeja had given an important message to his countrymen regarding the novel pandemic by sharing a throwback video of his run-out.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, the 31-year-old had posted a throwback video of him playing for Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and running-out Mumbai Indians’ player. With the video, Jadeja was urging the citizens that staying home is the best way to fight the spread of coronavirus or one can be ‘run-out’ by venturing out of the home.

Jadeja was all set to represent Chennai Super Kings in the 2020 edition of the IPL, which was slated to take place from March 29 to May 24 but the T20 lucrative tournament was postponed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) indefinitely in April in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

The novel virus, which was first reported in the Wuhan city of China, has so far affected more than 81,000 people in India and claimed the lives of more than 2,600 in the country.

Biden to go after Trump in November in Republican states such as Arizona, Texas and Georgia, campaign says

0

[ad_1]

Biden’s campaign said it will also compete in other states such as Iowa and Ohio that Hillary Clinton lost by large margins in 2016.

The campaign’s public announcement of targets — which some Democrats feel are overly ambitious — is driven by what it sees as weaknesses for Trump that have been magnified by his response to the virus. It comes after weeks of criticism from Democrats, who worry Biden isn’t being aggressive enough.

The campaign held a similar call Friday that attracted more than 100 surrogates, including former senators Bill Bradley of New Jersey and Bill Nelson of Florida, according to a person familiar with it.

The back-to-back briefings come as some high-profile Democratic leaders are openly fretting that a homebound Biden is failing to get his message across via virtual events and appeared designed to assuage those concerns.

Biden’s staff, on the call with reporters Friday, frequently pointed to national polling and surveys in battleground states that give Biden an edge. Recent public polls in Arizona, Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin show Biden leading. Trump is beating Biden by small margins in Iowa and Texas.

Biden senior adviser Mike Donilon said that during a national crisis, a sitting president usually sees a big jump in the polls. “That didn’t happen” with Trump, he said. “The numbers for governor skyrocketed. The numbers for leaders around the world skyrocketed. They didn’t skyrocket for Trump.”

Biden, at this point, is also making a point of not engaging with Trump on every attack that he makes, assuming that in the midst of a massive national emergency voters are less interested in a back-and-forth between candidates and more in getting help.

“We have a job in terms of meeting these attacks but not letting them overwhelm the campaign,” Donilon said.

Donilon called that “a fundamental factor in this election.”

He stressed that there’s a strong Biden brand in the minds of voters, pointing out that Trump has been attacking Biden for a year already with little impact. “People have a really good understanding who Joe Biden is,” Donilon said. “And that has been an underestimated part about him in this race.”

The Trump campaign is intent on eroding that, and Tim Murtaugh, Trump’s campaign communications director, said in a statement that Biden is moving too far to the left to be palatable to the kinds of voters that the Biden campaign needs to expand the map and win.

And, using an attack that was effective in defeating Clinton, he said Biden’s vote for the NAFTA trade deal would anger voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas “or anywhere else people care about good jobs.”

He signaled that Trump’s campaign will make up ground in Florida by pushing Biden’s role in thawing relations with Cuba and Venezuela.

“The American economy reached unprecedented heights under President Trump before it was artificially interrupted by the coronavirus, and he will build it back up a second time,” Murtaugh said. “Americans know that President Trump has been leading the nation in fighting the coronavirus, and they also know that Joe Biden has been nothing but a political crank, lobbing counterproductive criticisms from his basement bunker.”

But Biden strategists believe it’s unlikely there will be a quick economic rebound.

On the call, Biden’s senior staff described the “Biden coalition,” which they say is powering his small leads in national polling. The first group includes young voters, African Americans and Hispanics; another group is suburban and college-educated women; and the final one is “disaffected voters,” whom they describe as non-college-educated whites, blue-collar workers, black and Latino men, and those who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 or 2012 and then switched to Trump in 2016.

“Many of these groups have grown less supportive of Democrats since 2012,” Dillon said. “But these voters can be won back by the vice president.”

The quick wrap-up of the primaries has left Biden with a greater opportunity to unify the party, Biden’s staff said, but it comes at a time when the candidate has been forced off the campaign trail, limited to talking via phone and video from his Delaware home.

Trump has started to move around the country with coronavirus-related appearances focused on key electoral states; he traveled to Pennsylvania on Thursday and earlier was in Arizona.

His campaign also has far more money, volunteers and communications networks on hand than Biden’s does. Trump’s campaign entered May with a $255 million war chest, according to figures it released. Biden’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee have about $103 million in the bank, according to figures released on the call.

“We feel very comfortable that the campaign has the resources and organization we need to win,” said Dillon, saying its April fundraising was better than expected. Biden and his allied committees raised about $60.5 million last month, and Trump’s team along with the Republican National Committee brought in $61.7 million.

It’s not clear when — or whether — Biden will return to traveling around the country, and much of the Biden team’s presentation focused on work the campaign is doing to prepare for an extended period of virtual campaigning.

Using a slide entitled “A campaign built to scale while operating in a new normal,” Dillon explained that the operation will have 600 organizers responsible for battleground states hired by June and the campaign plans to double the size of its digital team.

When asked directly when Biden might leave his home in Wilmington, Del., Dillon cited the state’s stay-at-home order and insisted that Biden’s retail politics skills translate well via screens.

“I think everyone’s really adjusted to this new normal,” Dillon said. “I truly believe voters, our volunteers, our activists and supporters get as much on hearing from the VP and connecting with him in a virtual setting now as they would if he was out in person.”

Seb Coe: Athletics will look very different in 2020 | Other Sports News

0

[ad_1]

Global athletics competitions in 2020 will look very different from what we have been used to so far, according to Lord Sebastian Coe, the head of the governing body of World Athletics.

In an exclusive conversation with WION, two-time Olympic champion Lord Coe said that the safety of athletes is the most important guiding principle that World Athletics will follow as it plots a return to action in the COVID-19 era.

A new schedule for the Diamond League season was announced earlier this week with the aim to begin in Monaco in August and continue till October.

“Meeting Directors will have to take their own decisions about how to get athletes to competition in a safe and secure manner that doesn’t risk infection”, said Lord Coe.

“Each event will have to decide on a format for competition with these safety considerations two months in advance. Everybody is waiting to return to competition and organisers will have to be as creative and ingenious as possible in the current circumstances”, he added.

Even though fans are unlikely to be allowed inside stadiums to witness live sport anytime soon, Lord Coe stressed that it was still important to return to competition for the sake of the athletes.

“We have to be guided by what governments, the WHO and local authorities are telling us, but we also have to make our own decisions and make sensible compromises. There may be a moment when a sport decides that it is ready to stage events even if it is not always with the approval of those authorities. We will be respectful, but we have to make decisions in the best interest of our sport and our athletes”.

World Athletics was also one of the bodies that put pressure on the International Olympic Committee to postpone this summer’s Tokyo Games in March. The IOC was criticised for its late response, but Lord Coe said that as the former chief of the London 2012 Olympics, he was able to appreciate how difficult a decision it was. He also refused to speculate on whether on Tokyo Olympics can be held in 2021 without a vaccine or cure for the coronavirus.

“Speculating about something that is over a year away is unhelpful. We are trying to give the athletes some clarity about the calendar and speculation from scientists and medical experts does not help. I hope that the pandemic will be contained so that we don’t have to cancel the Games”, he concluded.

GOP leader won’t endorse Steve King’s reelection in competitive primary

0

[ad_1]

“Congressman King’s comments cannot be exonerated and I never said that,” McCarthy said Friday, echoing a response his office gave the day before.

McCarthy added that King will have the opportunity to make his case to the steering committee that decides committee assignments, but that he thought King “would get the same answer he got before.”

The House GOP Steering Committee voted unanimously to strip King of his posts in early 2019 after the controversial congressman was quoted by the New York Times questioning how the terms “white nationalist, white supremacist” became “offensive.” The move followed years of mainstream Republicans distancing themselves from King over his inflammatory comments about race and immigration.

King’s primary opponents have highlighted his absence on committees as evidence that King has become powerless and ineffective in Washington.

His main opponent, state Sen. Randy Feenstra, has received support from groups such as the Chamber of Commerce as well as from local, state and federal elected Republicans.

Typically, party leadership backs their incumbents, but King isn’t getting any support from on high.

McCarthy, when pressed about whether he would support King’s reelection or support his challenger, said he was staying neutral and would leave it up to voters in Iowa to decide.

Secret Service signs $179,000 contract to rent golf carts in Bedminster, N.J., this summer

0

[ad_1]

The rental deal was signed Monday, went into effect Tuesday and lasts until Oct. 31, according to records posted online in a public database of federal spending.

The contract does not say whether Trump plans to visit the Bedminster club soon. The Secret Service also protects his family, and Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her family have already visited the club this year, despite stay-at-home orders in Washington and New Jersey, as the New York Times reported.

The Secret Service and the golf-cart company both declined to comment. The White House, the Trump Organization and the general manager of the Bedminster club did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

Trump has visited his properties 250 times as president, including 22 visits to Bedminster, according to a tally by The Washington Post. But he has not been to any of them since March 8 — the longest absence of his term — as the coronavirus pandemic has shut down travel and consumed his presidency.

If Trump returned to the Bedminster club today, he would find it largely shut down because of coronavirus measures imposed by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D). The club had to close entirely for 46 days, then reopened only its golf courses on May 2 after Murphy allowed outdoor activities to resume.

Even after the golf courses reopened, the club warned its members against socializing.

“Under no circumstances will any type of congregating or gathering be allowed in parking lots or on the golf course,” the club cautioned members in an email, according to a copy obtained by The Post.

When he visits, Trump stays in a detached cottage on the club’s grounds, and Murphy’s order does not seem to prohibit him from visiting there. A spokesman for the governor declined to comment.

In the past, Trump has frequently left the cottage to visit the main clubhouse, socializing with members in the restaurant and dropping in on weddings in the ballroom. Those buildings are now closed.

In previous years the Secret Service has rented space from Trump’s company, paying $17,000 per month for a four-room cottage at the Bedminster club near Trump’s own.

It was unclear whether those rental payments to Trump’s company will continue this year. They are not listed in public databases, as the golf-cart rentals are.

The contract between the Secret Service and Associates Golf Car was spotted by American Bridge 21st Century, a super PAC that supports Democrats. Earlier this year, the same group identified a similar Secret Service contract, to rent golf carts to be used in the town that is home to Trump’s Northern Virginia golf club.

Trump has not visited that club in Sterling since the contract was signed in late March.

In Bedminster, this year’s contract between the Secret Service and Associates Golf Car is more than in past years. The Secret Service paid the company $118,000 in 2018 and $95,000 in 2019, according to federal records posted online.

Records in the federal spending database do not indicate why this year’s charge is higher.

House changes its rules during pandemic, allowing remote voting for the first time in its 231-year history

0

[ad_1]

Democratic leaders pushed forward with the changes this week after failing to come to terms in two weeks of negotiations with Republicans, who firmly opposed several key measures in the proposal.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and top Democrats said the changes were temporary and tailored to the current crisis — which has made mass gatherings of lawmakers hazardous — but necessary to ensure that the House fulfills its constitutional obligations.

The House has sputtered for the past two months as other organs of the federal government — most notably the Supreme Court — and schools, localities and the private sector have embraced video technology to conduct business. The smaller, 100-member Senate returned May 4 and has relied on remote committee work for hearings, though senators still must be present for roll-call votes.

Defending the changes during the floor debate Friday, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) said the moves were purely temporary and would “not fundamentally alter the nature of the House or how it operates.”

“There is no dangerous precedent, only a common-sense solution to an unprecedented crisis that demands our ingenuity and adaptability as an institution,” Hoyer said.

House Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) addressed the balancing act of responsibility and health risks as members returned to the Capitol on Friday to vote on the rules changes and a $3 trillion emergency relief package. Washington remains under a stay-at-home order through June 8.

“Any of us could have the virus and not even know it. We could be asymptomatic but carriers nonetheless,” McGovern said. “Convening Congress must not, must not turn into a super-spreader event. . . . What would be radical is if this House did nothing, if we made members decide between spreading a deadly virus or legislating for the American people. That’s a false choice. We can and we should do both.”

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) pointed to a public health reality: The Washington region was a virus hot spot, and several lawmakers are under treatment for chronic medical conditions.

“The best place you can find to get the coronavirus is indoors in an enclosed room with a lot of people and a lot of talk,” he said. “That’s the definition of Congress.”

Republicans argue that the current 430-member House could instead make more-modest adaptations to its operations. They have raised several objections, including that lawmakers should report to their workplaces like other essential workers, that the rules changes erode the rights of the minority and that they represent a major break with the customs of the House.

“We are changing the power of Congress itself,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told reporters Friday. “The Founders would be ashamed of today,” he added. “This is not what they envisioned, this is not what they believed in, and this is not the action the American public believe.”

Several Republicans said Congress did not change its rules and continued to meet even as the Civil War raged fewer than 100 miles from the Capitol. Others recalled the onerous conditions the nation’s founders faced in traveling to Washington.

“Our founders used to ride days on horseback, on wagons, through unkind conditions to get to D.C.,” said Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.). “Us, we only have to brave TSA lines and occasionally a delayed flight. You know, the Constitution here did not catch the virus. Why are we voting on a measure here to basically suspend it?”

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said the House could take “appropriate precautions and go back to work. That’s what the executive branch is doing. That’s what the United States Senate is doing. That’s what millions of Americans do each and every day. We should be no different. The House should do the same.”

Some of the rule changes, however, largely match procedures already in use in the Republican-controlled Senate — such as the use of videoconferencing technology at committee hearings.

The House Democrats’ proposal would go further, allowing fully virtual hearings as well as committee business meetings in which legislation can be considered, amended and advanced to the floor.

The proxy voting proposal allows any member attending a House vote to cast as many as 10 votes on behalf of colleagues who have authorized those votes by letter to the House clerk.

It remains unclear just how widely the proxy voting option will be used. Between 25 and 35 members have been absent for the House votes held amid the pandemic. But a half-dozen House Democrats polled Friday said they would continue to vote in person as long as they were able.

“This is for emergencies,” said Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-Mich.). “It’s not like, ‘I’m having a bad day and I don’t want to go to Washington.’ ”

But Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Tex.) said she planned to be selective about which votes she physically attends going forward, lest she expose herself and others to needless risk in her trip to and from El Paso.

“It just depends situation to situation. I am cognizant of the fact that this is a hot spot,” she said. “I have to think about those things. It’s more complex than saying, ‘Oh, I’ll be here every vote.’ . . . Really, it’s putting other people at risk.”

Democrats said they incorporated several Republican suggestions, including limiting the number of proxy votes any one member could cast, restricting virtual hearings to approved software platforms and requiring sufficient notice of any remote proceedings.

All of the provisions are temporary under the resolution, applying only to “a public health emergency due to a novel coronavirus,” as declared by the House speaker.

The House session Friday is the third time that a large number of lawmakers have been called back to Washington since mid-February.

Significant social distancing measures have been undertaken on Capitol Hill, including limiting the number of lawmakers gathering on the floor by establishing a platoon system for voting and otherwise encouraging those members who are not speaking to remain in their offices.

The Rules Committee has met in the vast hearing room of the Ways and Means Committee rather than in its tiny space tucked above the House chamber, and a Thursday hearing of the House Energy Committee took place with members sitting apart.

Those adaptations, Republicans have argued, are sufficient.

“If the whole House can conduct business while adhering to health guidelines, then so too can our committees,” the top Republicans on House committees wrote in a letter Thursday, calling the Democratic proposal a “partisan assault on the rights of the House Minority and our ability to effectively represent the American people.”

The changes appear to be the most significant to the chamber’s operations in at least 25 years, perhaps longer.

In the years after the Watergate scandal, a bumper crop of Democratic freshmen pushed through changes that diluted the power of powerful committee chairmen and increased the transparency of the lawmaking process — culminating in 1979 with fully televised proceedings.

After Republicans took over the House in 1995, they instituted changes meant to address what they saw as Democratic abuses of power — including the use of proxy voting in committees.

And after the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, the House formulated procedures to ensure it could function in case of a mass-casualty event affecting Congress. But House leaders believed those procedures were ill suited to the circumstances of a pandemic and opted against invoking them, aides said.

Zomato lays off 13 per cent employees amid coronavirus COVID-19 crisis, to be notified by video calls | Companies News

Amid the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis, Zomato on Friday laid off 13 per cent employees citing not “enough work for all” and unable to offer “our colleagues a challenging work environment”.

An official statement read, “Multiple aspects of our business have changed dramatically over the last couple of months and many of these changes are expected to be permanent. While we continue to build a more focused Zomato, we do not foresee having enough work for all our employees. We owe all our colleagues a challenging work environment, but we won’t be able to offer that to 13 per cent of our workforce going forward.”

The statement added that the company will hold video calls with impacted employees to walk them through the next steps and help find them jobs as soon as possible. “We are going to assure them that we stand by them, and will financially and emotionally support them to the fullest possible extent,” further read the statement.

The statement also read, “All our employees who no longer have any work at Zomato, will continue to be with us at 50 per cent salary for the next six months. During this time, outside of the handover period of 1-2 weeks, we expect these folks to spend 100 per cent of their time and energy towards looking for jobs outside of Zomato.”

It added, “Some impacted employees work with us through manpower agencies and not directly on our payroll. We are going to help these agencies support these employees with two months of severance (vs. 15 days of contractual obligation). Each person leaving us will also be allowed to keep their Zomato issued laptops and phones (if any). Previously allocated ESOPs will continue to vest during this period of 6 months, as all these people will remain on our payroll with reduced pay.”

“For everyone who is impacted – you will get invites for a zoom call with the leadership team within the next 24 hours. These invites will be sent to you via email and Dingtalk. For everyone who is not impacted – an email from hr@zomato.com in the next 6 hours should tell you that your jobs are here to stay,” further read the statement.

At a time when all the sporting activities across the world are at halt due to coronavirus pandemic, the sports personalities are finding different ways to pass their time. From spending some quality time with their family members to engaging in their favourite activities, the players are making the most of this forced break.

Recently, former Indian men’s hocket team skipper Sardar Singh recently took to his official Twitter handle and revealed how he is engaging time these days.

The 33-year-old posted a video in which he and his nephew could be seen washing their Range Rover car. Along with the video, Sardar said that he and his nephew are passing time by doing what they love the most, adding that this lockdown has allowed people to do so many things which they have been missing out.

“Some bonding time with my nephew and doing something we love doing together. This time is giving us the chance to do so many things we have been missing out on. Take good care of your cars as well. #StaySafe #StayHome,” he wrote.

In September 2018, Sardar decided to call time on his illustrious career, saying that he had played enough in the past 12 years.

The former hockey captain made his international debut for India during their clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in 2006. Since then, Sardar has been a vital cog in the Indian team’s midfield.

During his illustrious career, Sardar appeared in a total of 350 matches for India besides also leading the national side for eight long years from 2008 to 2016. He stepped down from the post in 2016 to hand over the role to PR Sreejesh.

Sardar, who also featured for the national side in two Olympics, was the youngest player to lead India when he captained the side during 2008 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

Sardar, who hails from Sirsa in Haryana, was also awarded with the prestigious Arjuna award in 2012 and Padma Shri in 2015.

German cafe tells customers to wear pool noodles to enforce social distancing

[ad_1]

Last Saturday the owners of the Cafe Rothe in Schwerin — a town in German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s home state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania — were allowed to reopen their doors to visitors after coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

While people enjoyed the company and the weather, the motto at the cafe was: “Keep the social distance.”

Rather than using floor markings and perspex screens to keep people apart, the owners of the cafe distributed straw hats with two colorful swimming noodles attached to the top.

To mark the occasion, owner Jaqueline Rothe posted a photo to the cafe’s Facebook page showing customers sitting at tables with their new headgear on.

“Today it’s like this: distance measurement,” she wrote in the caption.

Rothe, 52, told CNN numerous happy customers flocked to the cafe to enjoy a coffee, cake or a beer in the sunshine.

“This was the perfect method to keep customers apart — and a fun one,” she said, explaining that local TV company RTL, which was filming the reopening of cafes and restaurants, came up with the idea.

“It was a perfect gag and of course it was funny, our customers were really into it. But what it did show to us (was) how difficult it is to keep a distance of 1.5 meters (4.9 feet),” said Rothe, who said she was surprised by the attention her photo got in media outlets around the world.

The cafe and confectionery shop usually has 36 tables inside and 20 outside in warmer weather, said Rothe.

“But with the new hygiene and social distancing measures we only have 12 tables inside and only eight outside,” she said, adding that pre-coronavirus their tables would be roughly 80 cm (31.5 inches) apart.

How Angela Merkel went from lame duck to global leader on coronavirus

During the shutdown the cafe remained open but was not able to serve customers inside. Now it is using less than half of its seating capacity.

“We will see what to expect when Germany opens up further, more people are allowed to travel and we have more tourists coming in the next few weeks, we will take it as it comes,” said Rothe.

Germany lifted some coronavirus restrictions after Chancellor Merkel said the country was out of phase one of the pandemic.

However, Merkel warned that Germany risks a new spike in infections if people stop adhering to physical distancing measures.

Germany has recorded more than 174,400 cases of coronavirus and 7,884 deaths, according to latest figures collected by Johns Hopkins University.
