Pakistan fans hurl sexist abuse at Kranti Goud during IND vs PAK clash: Video
A video from India’s Women’s Asia Cup clash against Pakistan has sparked outrage after Kranti Goud appeared to be subjected to sexist and gender-based abuse from spectators during the match.
In the video circulating on social media platform X, voices can be heard making derogatory remarks about the Indian cricketer’s gender and appearance, including repeatedly claiming that she was a man. The identity of the spectators and the circumstances surrounding the incident could not be independently verified.
The incident has drawn criticism online, with users condemning the abusive remarks directed at Goud during one of the biggest rivalries in women’s cricket.
SEXIST ABUSE CAUGHT ON VIDEO
The alleged heckling came during India’s dominant seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in their Women’s Asia Cup T20 clash on Saturday.
While the video has triggered debate on social media over the treatment of women athletes, Goud’s name and the nature of the remarks have become a major talking point following the match.
Gender-based abuse and comments about the physical appearance of women athletes have remained a recurring problem in sport, particularly on social media and in stadiums. The video involving Goud has once again brought the issue into focus, with fans calling out the remarks as unacceptable.
SPINNERS POWER INDIA’S ROUT
On the field, India produced a thoroughly dominant performance, bowling Pakistan out for just 55 in 18.1 overs, their lowest-ever total in T20 internationals.
Young spinners Shree Charani and Prema Rawat led the demolition, picking up three wickets each. Charani returned figures of 3/7 from four overs, while leg-spinner Prema claimed 3/9. Deepti Sharma took 2/5, while Shafali Verma also chipped in with a wicket.
Pakistan had started confidently, reaching 27 without loss, but collapsed dramatically after India’s spinners took control. Harmanpreet Kaur’s bowlers delivered a staggering 78 dot balls as Pakistan lost six wickets for just nine runs to slip from 27/0 to 36/6.
India then chased down the modest target in 8.4 overs despite losing three wickets. Captain Harmanpreet remained unbeaten on 18 and sealed the victory with a six, while Deepti finished not out on 12.
The win continued India’s dominance over Pakistan in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, with India now winning seven of their eight meetings in the competition.
