Pakistan must strive to win big titles, show what they are capable of: Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan said that Pakistan need to carry the momentum of their ODI series win against Australia into the upcoming T20I series. Pakistan started with a two-wicket loss at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, after which they won the games in Adelaide and Perth to win the series 2-1.
Rizwan, however, talked about the importance of not losing focus going into the T20I series, which starts on Thursday, November 14 at The Gabba in Brisbane. The newly-appointed Pakistan captain also said that Pakistan need to do proper justice to their potential by winning World Cups and the Champions Trophy.
“It is fine we have celebrated the ODI series win because no one expected us to win in Australia. But at the same time, all the players must remember they are ambassadors of Pakistan and behave appropriately at all times on tour,” Rizwan was quoted as saying.
“I think we must all strive to win big titles like the World Cups and Champions Trophy to show everyone what Pakistan cricket is capable of,” Rizwan said.
“Records of not winning somewhere which have stood for years must be ended.”
Pakistan have a decent record against Australia in T20Is since they first met back in 2007. Pakistan have won 12 out of 27 matches while losing only 11.
In the upcoming series, the focus will be on Haris Rauf, who won the Player of the Series award in the ODIs. Rauf was the top wicket-taker in the ODI series, having taken 10 wickets from three games. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah will also look to replicate their heroics in the T20I series.
