Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and the main handler of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks Sajid Mir is likely lodged in Lahore Central Jail at present after being sentenced for eight years by an “anti terrorism court” in Pakistan earlier this month on charges of terror financing.

Mir’s sentencing comes as Islamabad prepares for an on-site visit by officials from Financial Action Task Force to verify the implementation of Pakistan’s relevant anti-money laundering and terrorism-financing reforms. A positive report may facilitate Pakistan’s exit from the grey list of the FATF, which it has been trying desperately.

Mir, sources said, was detained in April-end in a hush hush trial, while the prison term was awarded in June just before a meeting of FATF. Read full story
