PM Modi chairs meeting of Council of Ministers | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is chairing a meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Pragati Maidan Convention Centre in the national capital.
Sources said some ministries are expected to present a report of various central schemes and their implementation to PM Modi.
They added that there may be an important political message from the Prime Minister in view of elections to five states later this year and Lok Sabha polls next year.
The government is preparing an agenda for the monsoon session of Parliament which is set to begin on July 20.
The opposition is likely to raise the issue of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to corner the government. PM Modi had earlier made a strong pitch for UCC in India, fuelling a strong buzz that the government may try to implement the proposal in the next Parliament session before the 2024 general election.
Last week, PM Modi held a meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah, BL Santosh and BJP’s National President JP Nadda.
Nadda’s participation in the meeting led to talks about possible changes in the government and BJP organisation, including at the state-level, as the party gears up for key assembly elections due later this year and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
What has added to the reshuffle buzz is the fact that the period before Parliament’s Monsoon Session, which begins from July 20, could be the last window for such an exercise.
