Star West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran posted a heartfelt message on Instagram after Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from cricket. He thanked Bravo for his contributions and sacrifices for the game for more than two decades. The explosive batter also expressed his gratitude towards Bravo for giving a chance to a 17-year-old Pooran. Veteran West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from all forms of cricket just days before his 41st birthday. The highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket history, Bravo’s illustrious 21-year career came to an end after a recent injury during the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which cut short his final appearance on the field.

“Thank you for being our superstar. @djbravo47. You have shown us how this game should be played. And the sacrifices that have to be made to be on top for 21 years and also thank you for taking a chance on a 17 year old kid. Time for the next chapter in your life. Go well,” Pooran wrote the caption on his Instagram.

The baton was passed on successfully as Pooran recently surpassed Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan to shatter the world record for most runs in a calendar year in T20 cricket. Pooran’s 15-ball 27 for Trinbago Knight Riders against Barbados Royals in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League took his total to 2,059 runs, breaking Rizwan’s 2021 record of 2,036 runs.

Bravo joins KKR, CSK fans disappointed

Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings fans were left disheartened after Dwayne Bravo, a franchise legend, joined rivals Kolkata Knight Riders as their mentor ahead of IPL 2025. Bravo, a T20 icon and a pivotal figure in CSK’s numerous title-winning campaigns, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket following an injury during the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

“Just want to take the time to give a special thank you to the CSK management for giving me their blessings. To the fans of CSK in Chennai and all around the world, I want your blessings. I know this is a sad moment but I want you to continue supporting me. Lots of Love,” an emotional Bravo was heard saying in his video.
