Ranji Trophy: Suryakumar, Dube named in Mumbai squad for quarterfinal vs Haryana
India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Shivam Dube were named in Mumbai’s 18-member squad for their Ranji Trophy quarterfinal clash against Haryana, starting from February 8.
Both Suryakumar and Dube, who recently featured in India’s five-match T20I series against England, have played one match each in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy title defence this season.
Suryakumar Yadav led India to a commanding 4-1 series victory over England, but he failed to contribute with the bat in the five-match T20I series. The right-hander struggled throughout the series, managing just 28 runs across five innings with scores of 0, 12, 14, 0, and 2.
A recurring issue in his dismissals was his tendency to get out while attempting the flick shot. He consistently failed to counter the pace and bounce generated by Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, and Brydon Carse. Veteran spinner R Ashwin believes that despite Suryakumar’s impressive leadership, he needs to go back to the drawing board to address his batting woes.
Mumbai sealed their spot in the quarterfinals with a commanding innings-and-456-run victory over Meghalaya, while Jammu and Kashmir also progressed from Elite Group A.
Suryakumar was part of Mumbai’s lineup against Maharashtra in October, while Dube played in last month’s home fixture against Jammu and Kashmir, where the star-studded Mumbai side-including India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal-suffered a defeat.
The record 42-time champions will travel to Rohtak to face Haryana, who topped Group C, at the Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli. Among the notable inclusions in the squad is uncapped pacer Harsh Tanna, who has featured in four List A matches so far.
Mumbai squad: Ajinkya Rahane (c), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester D’Souza, Royston Dias, Atharva Ankolekar, Harsh Tanna.
