Rinku Singh to rejoin India squad ahead of ZIM clash after family emergency
Rinku Singh is set to rejoin the India squad ahead of the clash against Zimbabwe, India’s batting coach confirmed during the press conference in Chennai on Wednesday, February 25. Rinku is expected to be back with the squad on Wednesday evening ahead of the Super 8 clash at the Chepauk on Thursday.
Rinku Singh temporarily departed the team camp to attend to a family emergency. It was reported that his father, Khanchand Singh, was in a critical condition and had been admitted to a hospital in Greater Noida. The southpaw had travelled to Chennai with the squad on Monday, February 23, following India’s Super 8 fixture.
“Rinku Singh is coming back today evening. His father was not well. He went back. Hopefully he will join us today,” said Kotak at the press conference.
Rinku has played all five matches for India during the tournament but has scored just 24 runs. The return of the UP batter comes at the right time for India as they look to bounce back from their Super 8 loss to South Africa in Ahmedabad.
With Rinku returning, he will be expected to retain his place in the playing XI for the Zimbabwe clash.
INDIA TO STICK TO BRAND OF CRICKET
Despite the loss to South Africa, Kotak said that India will be sticking to their brand of cricket and won’t be looking to change it for the rest of the T20 World Cup.
“Definitely we will play the same brand of cricket. Sometimes you lose a couple of wickets and shot selection or risk percentage may be wrong. But that’s about it. Otherwise, in the T20 game, we have to be very positive and play the same brand of cricket which has given us success. That will continue,” said Kotak.
