Elgar was not happy with himself despite scoring his highest Test runs in an innings vs India and smashed his bat on the stairs, on his way back to the dressing room. At the time of getting out, Elgar had taken South Africa to 360 for the loss of 6 wickets.

Elgar extended his record vs India as well as he completed 996 runs against the side. The batter played a sturdy innings, laced with 28 boundaries as he punished India pacers who bowled really poor lengths.

On Day 3, India pacers continued to struggle with their bowling and things were made more difficult for India as sunshine made batting easy on the Centurion deck. Elgar added 111 runs alongside Marco Jansen for the 6th wicket as South Africa slowly build their lead over India.

Earlier South Africa had bowled superbly well and got India all-out for just 245 runs. South Africa pacers dominated India throughout the first innings and if it were not for a terrific counter-attacking century, India would not have crossed even the 200-run mark.

At the time of writing, South Africa were 392 for the loss of 8 wickets in 101 overs. Marco Jansen was batting at 72 alongside Nandre Burger.
