SA vs IND: Tony de Zorzi expecting ‘room-mate’ Nandre Burger to give him a share of his IPL deal from RR
South Africa batter Tony de Zorzi poked fun at his national teammate Nandre Burger after the latter bagged a deal in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction that took place in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19.
Burger was bought at his base price of INR 50 lakhs by the Rajasthan Royals during the accelerated round of the auction.
De Zorzi said that it was Burger’s teammates who helped the fast bowler bag the deal in the cash-rich T20 league.
“He needs to use that money on the team, because we helped him get there. I am also his room-mate on tour, so I am expecting something,” de Zorzi was quoted as saying.
Burger was impressive in South Africa’s eight-wicket victory over India on Tuesday at St George’s Park, Gqeberha. The left-arm fast bowler finished with figures of 10-0-30-3 as the Proteas restricted the Men in Blue to 211 in 46.2 overs.
Burger got the early wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma, after which he returned in his second spell to dismiss KL Rahul, who scored 56 runs off 64 balls with seven fours.
As far as de Zorzi is concerned, he scored 119 runs off 122 balls with nine fours and six sixes. On the back of his knock, South Africa chased down the target with 7.3 overs left in their innings. De Zorzi also won the Player of the Match for his incredible knock.
With the win, the Proteas drew level in the three-match series and also made a comeback after the hammering in the first ODI at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
