CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Police have made a significant breakthrough in the ongoing manhunt as they have arrested Amritpal Singh, the leader of ‘Waris Punjab De’, from Moga district.
Here are the latest developments:

  • IG says Punjab Police had surrounded the Rode village after operational inputs and Amritpal had no chance to escape
  • Amritpal got the message that he has been surrounded by police. Thereafter he was arrested: Sukhchain Singh Gill, IG, Punjab Police headquarters
  • Sukhchain Singh Gill, IG, Punjab Police headquarters, says, “Amritpal was arrested from Rode village under NSA at 6.45am. It was a joint operation of Punjab Police and Intelligence Wing. NSA warrants have been executed today morning.”
  • AAP leader and Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj says, “Punjab government handled this sensitively. No violence was reported. This is a very big achievement for Punjab Police.”
  • Akal Takhat Sahib’ former Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode said he got to know at around 12.30am about Amritpal’s arrival and reached Gurdwara Sahib at 4am
  • Security stepped up at Dibrugarh Jail in Assam where Amritpal Singh will be brought later today.
  • Police have left for Dibrugarh from Bathinda airbase

  • According to sources, Amritpal had arrived at Rode village on Saturday night and held prayers there on Sunday morning.

  • As per police claims, Amritpal has surrendered, two days after his wife was stopped from leaving the country.
  • Union minister Amit Shah on Saturday said that Amritpal could soon be behind bars.
  • Amritpal has been on the run ever since a police crackdown against him and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’ on March 18.
  • Last week Amritpal’s wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped from boarding a flight to London at the Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport.
  • Two more aides of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh were arrested at Mohali in Punjab, in a joint operation by Punjab and Delhi Police on April 18.
  • Papalpreet Singh, a close aide of Amritpal, was taken to Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 11 after he was arrested.
  • Associates of Amritpal were shifted out of Punjab after Central Intelligence agencies raised concerns over possible jailbreak and repeat of the Ajnala incident on March 11
