Swami Prasad Maurya Resigns from Samajwadi Party, Steps Down as MLC | Lucknow News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Two years after he dumped the ruling BJP for Samajwadi Party (SP), Swami Prasad Maurya on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the Akhilesh Yadav-led party. He also resigned from his membership in the state council.
The development came amid reports that Maurya was planning to launch his own party. He has convened a meeting of his supporters in Delhi on Feb 22 to finalise his next move.
On Feb 13, Maurya resigned from the post of SP national general secretary alleging that he was being marginalised and neglected in the party.
According to sources, during a recent meeting, Maurya’s core supporters had mooted the idea of launching a political outfit. In the same meeting, a proposal to name the party Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Dal was also tabled. Asked about the meeting and preparations to launch a new party, Maurya remained non-committal.
“My supporters have called a meeting at Talkatora stadium in Delhi on Feb 22 to decide the future course of action. Everything will be discussed there,” he said.
