A knife was removed from the chest of a 40-year-old woman in Coimbatore, 30 hours after she was stabbed.

The woman survived as only the tip of the knife pierced a small portion of her lung.

A 40-year-old woman was on May 25 stabbed at Hosur in Krishnagiri. She spent the next 24 hours with the knife inside her chest.

It was only thirty hours later after the incident that the doctors at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital were able to take out the sharp-edged weapon from the woman’s body.

The six-inch knife had pierced a small portion of the woman’s lung but inflicted no injuries to her heart.

Mallika was first taken to the Government Hospital in Salem, but was referred to the Coimbatore hospital.

A medical team led by Dr E Sreenivasan, head of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Dr Jaishankar Narayanan, Head of Anaesthesiology removed the knife from her chest after a three-hour surgery.

She was discharged after three days.

According to officials, the woman was stabbed by a person known to her at Hosur on May 25.
