‘The Kashmir Files’ also landed in political controversy as Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala made some statement about the film. He said, “Modi ji should tell when will our Kashmiri Pandits be rehabilitated and should give us a date as his government is there both at the Centre and in the state.” He further stated that the PM should reveal how many Kashmiris have been rehabilitated, given jobs, houses and compensation. “India is not a film but a reality. India will not be run by films but by the government’s policy and governance,” he said. Surjewala also alleged that the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, which is the basis of the movie, happened during the VP Singh government, which was supported by the BJP and hence questioned why the BJP did not withdraw support from the government at that time.
