IPL Auction: Full Squads | Biggest Gainers and Losers

Here’s a look at players who surprisingly did not get a bid during the IPL 2025 mega auction.

1. David Warner – Base Price of Rs 2 crore

It’s the end of one of the most memorable careers in the IPL. The ex-Australian opener found no takers at Rs 2 crore. He did not even return for the accelerated round in Jeddah. Will we see him as a commentator?

2. Jonny Bairstow – Base Price of Rs 2 crore

Jonny Bairstow had been one of the dangerous openers in the league, having played 50 matches across five years for SunRisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings. However, a dip in performances in the last two seasons at Punjab seems to have worked against him.

3. Prithvi Shaw – Base Price of Rs 75 lakh

Nobody wanted to go for the controversial opener after Delhi Capitals released him. He began his career with the Capitals and played 79 matches, scoring 1893 runs. He managed to play only 16 matches over the last two seasons. He scored just 198 runs in the last season and has been in the news for the wrong reasons and fitness concerns.

4: Piyush Chawla – Base Price of Rs 50 lakh

It seems to be the end of the IPL journey of one of the league’s greatest spinners. The 35-year-old was the lead spinner for Mumbai Indians in 2023 and 2024. However, he did not find a buyer. He has 192 wickets from as many matches in the league.

5. Shardul Thakur – Base Price of Rs 2 crore

This one was a huge surprise. After having made his mark for Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in the past, Shardul was expected to land a deal. However, he came on Day 2 of the auction when teams did not have a lot of money. It worked against him. Shardul has also had injury concerns. He did not impress in his last outing for the Super Kings in 2024 when he played nine matches and picked only five wickets.

6. Mayank Agarwal – Base Price of Rs 1 crore

Mayank Agarwal, a handy opener, hadn’t been getting a lot of opportunities ever since he left Punjab Kings in 2022. He played for SunRises Hyderabad in the last two seasons, but failed to shine. In the 2024 season, he played only four matches.

7. Kane Williamson – Base Price of Rs 2 crore

This was on the cards, wasn’t it? The former SunRisers Hyderabad captain has played only three matches in the last two years of IPL. Despite being fit, he played only two matches for Gujarat Titans last year.

Did Williamson make a mistake by keeping his base price at Rs 2 corer?

8. James Anderson – Base Price of Rs 1.25 crore

Quite a few expected James Anderson to attract a bid. The legendary England bowler registered for the auction for the first time in his career, months after retiring from Test cricket with 704 wickets.

Even CSK, who are known for buying veteran players, did not ask for Anderson. His name was not even called for bidding.

9. Navdeep Saini – Base Price of Rs 75 lakh

One of India’s fastest bowlers, Navdeep seems to have been unlucky to not find a buyer. Saini, who has been in good form in first-class cricket, missed the 2024 season too.

10. Sarfaraz Khan – Base Price of Rs 50 lah

While his brother Musheer Khan landed a deal with Punjab Kings, Sarfaraz was unlucky to miss out again after a breakthrough year in Test cricket.

Sarfaraz Khan last played in the IPL in 2023 for Delhi Capitals. He began his career with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2015. He played 25 matches for RCB in three years, but was not able to make a mark.
