It is a given that technology ought to make life easier. Over the years, most appliances have undergone major transformations from what they originally looked to improve their utility as well as design. But a video from the 1950s featuring a refrigerator has now gone viral on social media, and it has the internet unanimously preferring its features to the ones seen in the refrigerators available today. The black and white video features a woman taking the viewers through the various features of the refrigerator, and as the video progresses, you will be left spellbound.

In the video, the fridge is shown to have a special place for bottles and canned goods, butter as well as a space for cheeses. Below this is a glass box to store vegetables that “tilts down to show you your supply at a glance” and even lifts out of the fridge for ease of handling. The shelves in the fridge can be slid outside so you don’t have to pull objects to get to the ones in the back. The freezer also has space for several ice trays and pushes out the ice cubes easily.

The video was shared by the Twitter handle “Lost in history” along with the note, “Why’s this 66-year-old fridge better than the one I got now.” The clip has amassed over 9.2 million views in less than 48 hours.

Reacting to the video, one user agreed that the refrigerators of the past were sturdier. The tweet reads, “I used the 40s-50s GE fridges for years. They’re almost literally bombproof, and I finally had to suck it up and buy a new one recently. Best feature was the “butter conditioner” pocket. My favorite was the ’56 lazy Susan fridge. It was just like this one.”
