TIRUPATI: In a shocking incident, two women, who couldn’t give birth to children, were hacked to death by their husbands in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyal district.
The incident took place at Nannur village in Orvakal mandal on Wednesday.
According to Orvakal sub-inspector Mallikarjuna, Kuruva Goganna, a landlord at Nannur village with properties worth approximately Rs 60 crore, got his sons Kuruva Pedda Govindu and Kuruva Chinna Govindu married to Kuruva Rameshwari (26) and Kuruva Renuka (23) a few years ago.
But as years passed by and the daughters-in-law did not give birth to children, the father-in-law Kuruva Goganna, who got anxious about his family lineage likely to end with his sons, hatched a plan to kill both his daughters-in-law and get his sons remarried.
He convinced his sons and when they readily agreed, Kuruva Goganna and his sons took Rameshwari and Renuka to their farmlands on the outskirts of Nannur village on Wednesday and hacked them to death using sickles and knives.
They returned and tried to create a scene claiming that both his daughter-in-law who went to the fields were murdered by some unidentified miscreants.
However, the Orvakal police reached the crime scene along with the dog squad and interacted with the locals as well as with the family members of the deceased and arrived at a prima-facie conclusion that the twin murders were executed by the victim’s husbands and in-laws.
After the Orvakal police took Kuruva Goganna and his two sons Pedda Govindu and Chinna Govindu into custody and questioned them, the three accused confessed to the crime.
Orvakal police shifted the bodies for postmortem.
Family members of the victims demanded the sternest punishment for the accused for their gruesome act.
