HAPUR: At least nine persons were killed while 15 others sustained injuries after a boiler exploded at an electronic equipment manufacturing factory in western Uttar Pradesh‘s Hapur district on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
“The injured are being treated. We are probing the matter. Action will be taken against those responsible,” news agency ANI quoted Hapur IG Praveen Kumar as saying.
Officials said that rescue and relief efforts were still underway.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, his office stated in a tweet in Hindi.
“The chief minister has directed district administration officers to go to the spot and oversee rescue and relief measures and extend all possible help to the victims and their families,” the CM’s office tweeted.

UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ said that 6 workers died in the explosion at the factory’s boiler.
“May God give peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear the immense loss. I wish speedy recovery to the injured,” the minister tweeted.
PM Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the kin of those who lost their lives in a boiler blast in a chemical factory in Hapur, UP today (9 people dead, 19 injured). He added, “State Govt actively involved in the treatment of the injured and all possible help.”
“A committee will be formed. Forensic team finding out what chemical has been retrieved (in the explosion at the manufacturing factory),” added Hapur DM Medha Roopam, UP.
