Waqar Younis hits back at Mohammad Hafeez's 'no legacy from 90s cricketers' comment

Former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis has hit back at criticism from Mohammad Hafeez, who claimed that Pakistan cricketers from the 90s have left no legacy for the future. Recently, analysing their national team’s poor performance in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Hafeez said that the cricketers from the 90s have left no legacy for future generations.
The criticism got a sharp response from Waqar, who posted collective numbers of him and his bowling partner Wasim Akram in international cricket on his X account. The legendary fast bowler also wrote ‘90s ka Londa’ to take a jibe at Hafeez’s comments.
“90’s KA LONDA Tests 191 ODIs- 618 Wkts- 1705 Runs 8594 5wkts 66 10wkts – 10,” wrote Waqar on his X account.
Wasim and Waqar are known as one of the most formidable fast bowling pairs in the history of international cricket. The duo gave no respite to the batters during their prime and were a nightmare to face for several big names from international cricket.

Recently, Hafeez questioned the legacy left behind by the former Pakistan cricketers in the aftermath of their team’s Champions Trophy 2025 debacle.
“I am a huge fan of those who played in the 1990s, but when it comes to legacy, they left nothing for Pakistan. They didn’t win an ICC event they lost the (World Cups of) 1996, 1999, and 2003. We reached one final (in 1999) and lost that badly,” Hafeez said.
Meanwhile, following their Champions Trophy exit without a win, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come down heavily on their team leading to some big decisions in selection. Senior players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been dropped from the T20I team for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
The selection committee named Salman Agha as the skipper for the T20I side as they picked a young team for the shortest format. Pakistan are all set to play five T20Is and three ODIs against New Zealand beginning from March 16.
