Was Rohit Sharma angry? Shubman Gill addresses run-out drama in Dharamshala

When Shubman Gill had a terrible mix-up with Rohit Sharma that saw the former India captain get run out against Afghanistan, it would have felt like dj vu for him. It was in 2024 during a T20I game in Mohali that a similar situation unfolded between the two men.

Rohit was the captain at that time and was run out for a duck against the same opponents with Gill at the other end. At that time, Rohit lost it on the field, shouting at Gill as he made his way to the pavilion. This time, in what was a landmark game for the Indian opener, Rohit was run out after the mix-up with Gill, but made a silent return to the dugout. But this time, there was no outburst in the dressing room.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Gill said that Rohit had no issues with what had happened.

“He saw the replay, he said it’s fine. Even in the last match that we played against Afghanistan, T20s, he got run out there as well,” said Gill.

GILL ON HIS STUNNING CATCH

Gill helped India secure the win against Afghanistan with 84 runs, but it was his stunning catch at slips that took all the headlines. When asked if it came about through practice, the Indian captain said that he had been preparing for such a moment, as he didn’t have a showcase fielding effort in his career.

“No, I definitely caught the ball, practicing a lot, taking a lot of slip catches and even, you know, before the match, I was talking to a friend, he was that I haven’t really taken like a really brilliant catch in my international career so far, one-handed and very happy to get that catch,” said Gill.

Both teams will now head to Lucknow as they will square off in the second ODI on Wednesday, June 17.
