Watch: Bangladesh team hits the nets in their first practice session at Chepauk

The Bangladesh team began their training for the first Test against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the team held their first practice session on Monday, September 16, after arriving in India on September 15. The Bangladesh Cricket Board shared a short clip of the team hitting the ground for their preparations. The batters faced throwdowns, focusing on countering the spin threat that India is expected to present.

Currently, Bangladesh is in top form and will draw significant confidence from their 2-0 clean sweep against Pakistan a couple of weeks ago. This marked their first-ever Test series win on Pakistani soil. They convincingly defeated Shan Masood’s side by 10 wickets in the first Test in Lahore, followed by a 6-wicket win in the second Test in Rawalpindi.

Bangladesh carries ‘extra confidence’

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is aware of India’s strength but feels his team carries ‘extra confidence’ into the series. Reflecting on the team’s mindset ahead of the tour, Shanto expressed their determination to win both matches.

“This will be a challenging series for us, but after having a good series against Pakistan, there is extra confidence in our team, as well as among all the people of the country. Every series is an opportunity, and we will play to win both matches. (We will focus on) the things we need to do to win… the process is important, and we need to do our job properly,” he told Cricbuzz.

Further discussing the upcoming challenge, Shanto acknowledged India’s strength and emphasized the need to remain competitive throughout the match.

“If we can do our job properly, certainly a good result is possible. But still, it’s going to be very challenging. If you see the rankings, they are far ahead of us, but recently we played a good series. The most important thing is how we can play good cricket. The result often happens in the last session of the five days, so if we can play well, we have a chance to do well in the final session,” he added.

Bangladesh has never beaten India in a Test match, having lost 11 of the 13 matches played between the two nations, with two ending in a draw.
