Watch: Laura Wolvaardt signs memorable picture with ‘favourite player’ Virat Kohli
South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt was pleasantly surprised after she got to sign one of her old pictures with Virat Kohli. The ICC uploaded a video on Friday, captioning “A blast from the past” during the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 where Wolvaardt was seen signing one of her photos with Kohli which was taken back in January 2020.

Four and a half years ago, Wolvaardt had a chance to get a picture with Kohli. She had captioned the picture and written, “Anything for the fans”. In ICC’s video, the 25-year-old Wolvaardt was also seen calling Kohli her “favourite player”. Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Marizanne Kapp and Sophie Ecclestone also featured in the video.

Wolvaardt has had an impressive run in the ongoing tournament thus far. In three games, she has notched 141 runs from three matches at an average of 70.50 and a strike-rate of 116.52. She started her campaign with an unbeaten 59-run knock, helping the Proteas beat the West Indies by 10 wickets.
She backed it up with a knock of 42 against Heather Knight’s England in challenging conditions at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. But her knock went in vain as the Proteas lost the match by seven wickets. Wolvaardt did not stop and made 40 runs as South Africa beat Scotland by 80 runs in their third match.
Wolvaardt’s women are currently placed second in the table with four points and a net run rate of 1.527 thanks to wins in two out of three matches. Their last group match is against Nigar Sultana Joty’s Bangladesh on Saturday, October 12 at the Dubai International Stadium.
Wolvaardt, in the meantime, is on the cusp of history. She is only 94 runs short of becoming the first South African batter to score 2000 runs in Women’s T20Is. In 75 matches, she has scored 1906 runs at an average of 36.65 and a strike-rate of 115.51.
