World No.1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav was ecstatic about fellow Mumbaikar and another budding star, Musheer Khan’s sensational hundred against New Zealand in the ongoing Under-19 World Cup 2024.

Musheer smashed 131 runs from 126 deliveries in the Super Six match against New Zealand on January 30 to become only the 2nd Indian batter after Shikhar Dhawan to score 2 or more centuries in a single edition of the under-19 World Cup. Dhawan holds the record of scoring 3 hundreds in the 2004 edition of the U-19 World Cup.

Suryakumar took to Instagram and congratulated Musheer for his incredible innings and motivated the young guns to keep going. Suryakumar wrote, “What a knock. Happy dugout. Keep going Boyzz.”

Musheer came out to bat at No. 3 after opener Arshin Kulkarni’s departure in the 5th over when India’s read 28 for 1. Musheer shared a 77-run partnership with opener Adarsh Singh with skipper Uday Saharan also chipping in with 34 runs. Musheer reached the 3-figure mark in 109 balls to help India post a competitive total of 295 runs.

Musheer has been India’s top batter in the tournament and has showcased prolific form by scoring 131 against New Zealand, 73 against the USA, 118 against Ireland, and 3 against Bangladesh in the 4 ODI matches so far. With 321 runs under his belt, Musheer became the leading run-scorer of the ongoing tournament.

WHO IS MUSHEER KHAN?

The 18-year-old is the younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan, who received his maiden India call-up for the 2nd Test match against England at Vizag. The Khan brothers are having a great time in their career by getting results for all the efforts they have been putting in.

Sarfaraz also praised the batter and had said in an interview that he considers the youngster better than him. The Ranji star said that Musheer’s mannerisms with the bat were better than his.

“He’s (Musheer) a better batter than me. I’m not saying this because he’s my brother. Sometimes, I may be struggling but watching his technique and trying to work out what he’s doing would give me confidence. His mannerisms, bat flow is very good. Sometimes when I’m not batting well, I look at him and learn,” Sarfaraz told ESPNcricinfo.
