Rohit Sharma’s return remains the big talking point ahead of Mumbai Indians’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. With MI struggling to settle their top order in his absence, fans are still waiting on clarity over whether the former captain will take the field.
The franchise, however, has not shut the door on his return. According to the latest update, a final decision on Rohit’s availability will only be taken at the toss on matchday.
“He continues to progress. Any call on his availability (in the game versus SRH) would be taken at the toss tomorrow,” an MI spokesperson said.
Rohit’s absence over the last few matches has been felt. MI have tried multiple combinations at the top, but none have quite clicked, leaving a visible gap in both stability and intent.
WHY IS ROHIT SHARMA NOT PLAYING?
Rohit has been out of action after picking up a hamstring injury during MI’s home loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12.
Since then, MI have struggled to find a settled opening pair. Options like Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Danish Malewar have been rotated, but the results have not been consistent.
Malewar, in particular, has found it tough, registering scores of 2 and 0 in his last two outings. The lack of stability at the top has affected MI’s starts, putting pressure on the middle order.
Despite missing the last three games, Rohit remains MI’s fourth-highest run-scorer this season, with 137 runs at an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of 165, underlining his importance to the side.

As things stand, Rohit’s participation is still uncertain and will depend on his fitness assessment closer to the match.
The MI camp remains cautiously optimistic, indicating that he is progressing well but not committing to a definite return just yet. The final call will be made at the toss, keeping fans guessing until the last moment.
With Mitchell Santner already ruled out due to injury and replaced by Keshav Maharaj, MI are already dealing with selection challenges. There is also uncertainty around Will Jacks’ place in the XI despite his strong record in similar conditions.
