We see our local street vendors standing firm in the heat and cold, making our favourite street foods. While your eyes are on your order being prepared, have you taken a moment to see the effort the person is putting into catering to our cravings? We come across many stories of street vendors going against all odds to make ends meet with their meagre income. These stories touch us and inspire us at the same time. Once such recent story caught our attention and we were left in awe of a Chinese women’s resilience in the face of adversity.  

According to a report in the South China Morning Post (SCMP), a Chinese woman, surnamed Nie, started selling homemade Chinese food to provide for her family after her husband met with an accident. Her husband, surnamed Ding, suffered a skull fracture in a tragic car accident in September this year and has been in a coma ever since. Ding was working as a food delivery agent before the accident. He was on his way to deliver food to a customer when his tricycle collided with a car.   

Nie took it upon herself to raise money for the livelihood of her two children and to pay the medical bills of her ailing husband. She started selling homemade noodles and dumplings.

Nie told SCMP that there has been some improvement in her husband’s condition. She added, “No matter if he remains in a vegetative state or wakes up without the ability to move or any other situation, I will carry on.”  

It’s heart-warming to see the woman’s unstoppable force to look after her family, isn’t it?
