After a gap of two years, Brazil’s famous carnival is being organised with pomp and show. Millions of revellers from around the world have reached the capital city of Rio de Janeiro to witness the extravaganza. The famous “blocos” or musical troupes participated in the parade and samba schools again lit up the Sambadrome, a special venue built for the carnival in Rio de Janeiro. In the wake of pandemic, the carnival was suspended for last two consecutive years. This year, originally it was scheduled for the end of February, but, it was once again cancelled fo the third straight year due to rise in Covid cases. The pressure from the tourism sector over fears of another year without its main season of income and employment led to a rescheduling for the end of April. Although, the carnival is witnessing less number of foreign tourists due to pandemic.
