Watch: Tilak Varma's stunning catch to dismiss brave Indrajith in Duleep Trophy

In what turned out to be a dramatic finale to the Duleep Trophy 2024, Tilak Varma’s sensational catch to bring an early end to Baba Indrajith’s heroic effort to save India C, played a key role in India A’s title win. The match on September 22 saw plenty of action on Day 4, particularly when Indrajith, battling a hamstring injury sustained in the first innings, returned to the crease to help India C in their second innings.

Despite his bravery, Indrajith’s stay was short-lived. On just his second ball, he was dismissed thanks to a remarkable diving catch by Varma at leg-slip. This crucial dismissal turned the tide firmly in India A’s favour and proved to be a pivotal moment on their road to victory.

Led by Mayank Agarwal, India A delivered an exceptional all-around performance to clinch the title. Heading into the final session of Day 4, it was the bowling brilliance of Prasidh Krishna and Tanush Kotian that pushed India C to the brink. Prasidh’s spell of 3/50, combined with Kotian’s 3/47, dismantled India C’s hopes of a successful chase.

Prasidh’s key breakthrough came when he dismissed centurion Sai Sudharsan, who had been spearheading India C’s resistance. His dismissal was followed by quick wickets of Anshul Kamboj and Baba Indrajith, leaving India C reeling. Varma’s diving effort to dismiss Indrajith added the finishing touch to what was a tense final day.

Playing at Anantapur, India A’s victory was sealed just minutes before the close of play, marking a triumphant end to the competition. Tilak Varma’s catch, alongside Prasidh Krishna’s fiery spell, played an instrumental role in securing India A’s Duleep Trophy title.
