Stocks making the biggest moves midday: American Airlines, Coherent, SLB, Tesla & more

Here are some of the companies making headlines in midday trading. Data center infrastructure — Investors backed away from shares of companies involved in the data center infrastructure industry as concern continued around hyperscaler spending on artificial intelligence. Shares of specialty glass and fiber company Corning lost 3%, while shares of photonics plays Coherent and Lumentum dropped roughly 7% each. Shares of GE Vernova , Eaton and the Defiance AI & Power Infrastructure ETF (AIPO) were all down more than 1%. Tesla — Shares of Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company slid for a third day, dropping more than 3% on Friday. Tesla’s stock is heading for a nearly 19% decline on the week. The stock tanked almost 15% Thursday after signaling higher spending on artificial intelligence. Booz Allen Hamilton — Shares popped 12% after the defense contractor posted fiscal first-quarter earnings that surpassed estimates. Adjusted earnings came in at $1.81 per share, while the FactSet consensus was $1.48 per share. The consultant also reaffirmed its fiscal-year outlook. Digital Realty Trust — The stock surged 15% after the data center-focused real estate owner reported big earnings and revenue beats for the second quarter. The REIT also hiked its full-year earnings guidance. CEO Andy Power said the results reflect “robust customer demand and strong execution across our core pillars of growth.” Travel stocks — The group rose as oil prices slid following a report that Pakistan was pushing for renewed talks between the U.S. and Iran with China’s support. Shares of cruise operators Carnival and Norwegian were both up more than 5%. Shares of American and United Airlines rose 6.9% and 4.3%, respectively. C.H. Robinson Worldwide — Shares of the transport company tumbled 8%. A jury in Dallas County, Texas, issued an advisory verdict against C.H. Robinson and two other defendants related to a trucking accident that involved an independent motor carrier, according to a regulatory filing . The verdict awarded $604 million in compensatory damages. C.H. Robinson said it disagrees with the verdict and plans to appeal. Software companies — Traders snapped up shares of software companies, driving up the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) by 1%. Shares of Adobe and ServiceNow added more than 5%, while Workday ‘s stock gained more than 4%. Salesforce ‘s stock advanced nearly 4%. Intel — The chipmaker’s stock erased earlier gains and dropped 4%. Intel just reported its sharpest quarterly revenue growth in nearly 15 years . The company’s top line clocked in at $16.1 billion for the second quarter, 25% above the year-earlier period. Adjusted earnings per share of 42 cents per share also beat analyst expectations. Robert Half — Shares fell almost 6% after the staffing and exec search company reported underwhelming second-quarter results. Robert Half earned 26 cents per share, matching a FactSet forecast. Revenue of $1.34 billion was just above the $1.32 billion consensus. MaxLinear — Shares tumbled 20% despite the company reporting better-than-expected results in its second-quarter earnings report, and delivering current quarter guidance above estimates. The stock was up more than 400% in 2026 heading into the company’s earnings report. Boston Beer – Shares of the maker of Twisted Tea added 2%. Second quarter revenue of $568.3 million narrowly beat the FactSet consensus call of $566.7 million. Boston Beer also reaffirmed its full-year earnings guidance of $8.50 to $10.50 per share, versus the consensus estimate of $9.38. Tenet Healthcare — Shares rose more than 16% after the healthcare services company reported adjusted earnings of $6.12 per share in its second quarter. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting earnings of $4.26 per share. Revenue also beat expectations, and full-year guidance also came in above estimates. American Express — Shares dipped 5% after the credit card issuer reported a revenue miss in the second quarter. American Express delivered $19.64 billion in revenue, but analysts polled by LSEG expected revenue of $19.71 billion. Earnings for the quarter, however, came in above expectations. SAP — Shares rose 8% after the German software company reported cloud backlog grew by 27% year over year to 22.9 billion euros (US$26.03 billion) in the second quarter. Revenue of 9.88 billion euros (US$11.23 billion) was also just above an LSEG forecast of 9.86 billion euros (US$11.21 billion). SLB — Shares rose 10% after the energy services company delivered an earnings and revenue beat in the second quarter. SLB said that the quarter marked a return to year-over-year revenue growth as customers focused more on energy security and expanding production capacity. Charter Communications — Shares fell about 3% after second-quarter adjusted EBITDA came in below estimates. Free cash flow also missed expectations, while the company reaffirmed its capital expenditures outlook through fiscal 2029. Verizon Communications — The telecommunications company’s stoc rose 3% after a mixed earnings report.
