India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a rare appearance on X, hours after the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) confirmed that Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as the chief selector had come to an end.

Jadeja took to X to comment on a vacancy for selector posted by the BCCI and asked what the procedure was to apply for the post. The Indian all-rounder is not known to be active on the social media platform. In fact, his last reply to a tweet was on February 19, when he engaged with former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on a tweet related to Nepal cricket.

WERE JADEJA AND AGARKAR IN A RIFT?

Ravindra Jadeja and Ajit Agarkar have never openly been in a stand-off with each other. However, Agarkar played an instrumental role in the Indian T20I team’s shift from senior to junior players. Agarkar felt that the Indian team needed to look towards youngsters after the team’s terrible T20 World Cup 2022 loss in Australia and put in motion a plan where the team would play with a different identity from the previous one.

His plan was put on a temporary halt when Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja returned to the India line-up just before the T20 World Cup 2024, a tournament that India won. However, the trio retired from the format on the day India won the World Cup, setting in motion the overhaul that Agarkar had been wanting for months.

The Indian all-rounder was sidelined from the ODI squad against Sri Lanka in 2024 and Australia in 2025 during Agarkar’s tenure. However, the former chief selector had always argued that Jadeja was an integral part of the ODI set-up.

The frustrated all-rounder had broken his silence on the selection call, stating that he was not surprised by the decision.

“(Selection) is not in my hands. I want to play, for sure,” Jadeja had said during the West Indies Test series before the tour of Australia.

“(At the) end of the day, team management, selectors, coach and captain have their thoughts and they will have their reasons for not selecting me for this series. They have talked to me, it was not a surprise for me after the squad was announced,” he had added.

While there has been no proof of a rift between the former and current India cricketers, one can judge from Jadeja’s post that it was not smooth sailing either.
