Sourav Ganguly dismisses conflict of interest claims after taking DC coach role
Sourav Ganguly has dismissed concerns over a possible conflict of interest arising from his new role as Delhi Capitals head coach while he continues to serve as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal. The former India skipper said he has an order from the BCCI ombudsman that addresses the issue.
“I’ve got the order of ombudsman,” said Ganguly to the reporters after the India vs Uruguay football match.
Ganguly is set to make his debut as an IPL head coach in the 2027 season, taking over the Delhi-based franchise from Hemang Badani. It will be his first appointment as the head coach of an IPL side.
He already had a successful run with the Pretoria Capitals, the sister franchise of DC, and guided them to the final of the SA20 last year.
The 53-year-old has been part of the Delhi Capitals setup since 2019 and has held multiple positions within the franchise. He most recently served as Director of Cricket, working with both the men’s and women’s teams.
The former India captain also expressed confidence in the Delhi team ahead of the new season.
“Delhi will play well. I’m looking forward to it,” Ganguly told reporters on Tuesday.
Ganguly will step into the role alongside a Delhi Capitals leadership unit led by captain Axar Patel and experienced campaigner KL Rahul. The franchise has also added further experience to its Indian contingent by bringing Rishabh Pant back from Lucknow Super Giants following the 2026 IPL season.
The former India captain had already indicated that a coaching role with Delhi could be on the cards. Ganguly is reportedly set to bring with him a star-studded support staff for next season’s IPL.
Along with Ganguly and Yuvraj, Sri Lanka pace legend Chaminda Vaas and Amit Mishra are also expected to come into the backroom setup at DC.
Delhi finished sixth on the points table last year, well off the playoff spots.
