NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting at his residence with senior BJP leaders about government formation in the four states where the party won the recent assembly polls. Although it has been 10 days since results were declared, the party had put the government formation exercise on hold due to “holastak”, a phase not considered good for a new work as per the Hindu astronomical calendar.
Home minister Amit Shah, defence minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president J P Nadda were present in the meeting to discuss government formation in the four states. Sources said, the meeting was not only about who would lead the governments but also about the formation of their ministries.
Rajnath Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, who are observers for Uttarakhand, will reach the state capital as the legislature party meeting is likely on Monday. The party has decided to retain chief ministers in Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Manipur but uncertainty persisted about the next chief minister in Uttarakhand since the incumbent Pushkar Singh Dhami lost the assembly polls.
The legislature party meeting in Lucknow is likely on March 24 for which Union minster Amit Shah and the other observer former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das will reach the state capital same day.
