Asia Cup 2023: Babar Azam does remind me very much of Virat Kohli, says Tom Moody

Tom Moody has claimed that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam does remind him very much of Virat Kohli ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

Kohli and Babar are two of the most celebrated cricketers of this generation, each with their own impressive records and achievements. The comparison between these two players is a topic of ongoing debate among cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

In terms of international centuries, Kohli is second only to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, while Azam is not as close to Kohli’s record. However, Azam has scored more T20I centuries than Kohli.

As of August 2023, Babar Azam is the top-ranked player in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings with 886 rating points, while Kohli is in the ninth spot with 705 rating points.

The next face-off between these two cricketing giants is set to happen on September 2, 2023, at the Pallekele International Stadium in Sri Lanka, during the Asia Cup. This match is eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide, as it will be another opportunity to witness the prowess of these two exceptional players.

Moody, while talking to Star Sports, said that he can see the parallels between Babar and Kohli and said the Pakistan skipper is able to read the game well like the Indian star batter. Moody said that it would be a delight to watch both stars bat during the Asia Cup 2023 as they are both box office.

“I think absolutely he is. He does remind me very much of Virat Kohli, the way he goes about his business. He plays authentic cricket shots. He seems to understand, read the game very well, which Kohli has done for over a decade. He is a good chaser as well, like Virat Kohli has proven to be over many, many years. So, there’s so much likeness between the two and I wouldn’t go as far as saying that Virat is gonna have a better Asia Cup than Babar Azam, but they both can have equal pressure on them and it’s gonna be a delight to watch them both bat because they are box office.”
