Assam: 10 Guwahati cops transferred after attending party on river cruise

At least 10 police personnel posted in Guwahati including five top-ranking officers have been transferred by the Assam government as part of disciplinary action.

The disciplinary action was taken after the police officers attended a party onboard a river cruise, violating curfew and Covid-19 lockdown norms.

A Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and four Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) were among those transferred.

As per the direction of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the state home department has imitated disciplinary action to transfer of several police officers who went to a party on July 6.

In a press statement, the state Home department said the department has initiated steps for transferring one DCP, four ACPs, two OCs, two SIs and one ASI of the city police. All of them went on board the river cruise.

Some photographs from the night also confirmed their presence on the river cruise.

Following the incident, Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on July 7 had directed Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta to conduct an enquiry, submit a report and take disciplinary proceedings against those found guilty.
