Australia put themselves in pole position to win the third and final Test match against Pakistan after reducing the team to 68/7 in the second innings of the match. A late burst from Josh Hazlewood on Day 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground saw Pakistan fall spectacularly after putting up a strong total in the first innings of the Test match.

At stumps, wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Aamer Jamal were at the wicket. The duo were Pakistan’s saviour in the first innings of the Test match, rescuing the team from 96/5. Rizwan’s 88 off 103 and Jamal’s 82 off 97 helped Pakistan reach 313 runs in the first innings.

Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey was asked about Australia’s position in the Test match. Carey replied that the job as not done and that Australia knew about the threat that Rizwan and Carey posed for Australia.

“We’ve got to come back tomorrow. We saw Rizwan and Jamal put on 80-odd each in the first innings,” Carey told the reporters after the third day of the Test match.

The Sydney pitch had major rough patches for the right handers on Day 3. Carey felt that it would not be an easy chase for hosts on Day 4 and Day 5 of the Test.

“It’s not going to be an easy chase, we’ve seen the wicket play some tricks,” Carey said.

Pakistan had a lead of 82 runs at the end of Day 3 of the Test match and Carey hoped that David Warner would hit the winning runs in his farewell Test match.

“In an ideal world, it will be Davey hitting the winning runs,” concluded Carey.
