Coronavirus Omicron variant in India live updates: Omicron found in 75% of positive samples in January – The Times of India
The SARS-CoV-2’s Omicron variant triggered a significant immune response in those with mild Covid and even the asymptomatic, an ICMR-NIV study has found. The immune response after an Omicron infection may even neutralise earlier variants, including Delta, Beta and Alpha, the researchers added. The study, which also analysed the response after breakthrough infections, looked at blood samples of 39 participants—28 returnees from the UAE, the US, the UK and countries in Africa and 11 of their close contacts, all with confirmed Omicron infection. Everyone in the groups, including the unvaccinated, demonstrated a substantial immune response with antibodies after infection, effectively neutralising Omicron and Delta, among other variants, the study said.
