NEW DELHI: A day after Congress’s flop show in the assembly election, several leaders of the G-23 group met at senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad‘s residence in the national capital.
Party MPs Anand Sharma, Kapil Sibal and Manish Tewari – all prominent faces of the group – were among those who huddled at Azad‘s residence.
G-23 refers to the Group of leaders who had written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, questioning the party’s functioning and seeking structural overhaul.
The leaders were expected to discuss Congress’s poor performance in the five states and brainstorm future strategy, PTI reported quoting sourcees.
Notably, Sonia Gandhi is expected to convene the meeting of Congress Working Committee in the coming days to assess the party’s poll performance.
The Congress drew a blank in all the five states yesterday.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday wrested power from the Congress in Punjab, where the grand old party had been struggling with anti-incumbency and infighting.
In Uttar Pradesh, Congress managed to win just 2 seats this year, 5 fewer than what it had won in 2017 as it continued to lose its electoral relevaance in the politically crucial state.
In Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand too, the party failed to topple the ruling BJP.
