PATNA: Sohagpur, a small village tucked away in Katra block of Bihar‘s Muzaffarpur’s district, was in a celebratory mood on Tuesday. The cheering and dancing was to celebrate the achievement of Rakesh Kumar, 25, who has become the first in the village to land a government job since Independence, reports Manoj Chaurasia.
Rakesh was asked to join a local primary school as a teacher. “None from my village was able to get a government job in the past 75 years. I wanted to break this dubious record,” said a beaming Rakesh. Breaking into a wild celebration, the villagers distributed sweets, smeared gulal on one another’s faces and greeted the youth, who had broken the jinx.
But Rakesh’s journey was a lonely and difficult one. He lost his father when he was 19. He started teaching local children to support his education. There was nobody to help him. “My only dream was to get a government job and that forced me to work hard,” he said.
