Helen Mirren and husband Taylor Hackford relist their $12 million Hollywood Hills mansion after a $6.5 million price cut; the 115-year-old estate features eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms
Helen Mirren and her husband, filmmaker Taylor Hackford, have returned their long-held Hollywood Hills property to the market, asking $12 million for a residence with more than a century of history behind it. The latest listing, reported by Architectural Digest, represents a substantial reduction from the $18.5 million sought when the couple first put the house up for sale in 2021. Mirren and Hackford have owned the estate since the 1980s, during which time it has remained associated with the quieter residential side of Los Angeles rather than the public life that surrounds its famous owners. A recent interior redesign has given the property a fresh presentation as the couple seeks a buyer for the sprawling compound.
Helen Mirren’s Hollywood Hills home has a history dating back to
Built in 1911 for silent film actor Dustin Farnum, the residence has passed through the hands of several figures connected to the entertainment industry. Among its former occupants were Gail Patrick, an actress who later became a successful television producer, and Mark Hellinger, a journalist and producer whose career also took him into film and television. When the house was listed in 2021, Hackford pointed out that it had experienced relatively few changes of ownership over its long life. The couple had already spent decades there by then, making their departure a significant change for a home that had remained in their possession since the 1980s.
Inside the main residence and guest accommodation
The main house measures approximately 6,600 square feet and is arranged across two floors. The wider compound offers considerably more space, with a three-bedroom guesthouse and a garage building that includes an upstairs office and apartment. Taken together, the estate covers about 10,200 square feet of built space, with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms across the property.Visitors can be accommodated separately, while the additional office and apartment provide space away from the principal living areas. It is a substantial property, although Mirren described its atmosphere differently when discussing the house in 2021, saying that its size did not make the occupants feel lost inside it.The couple brought in Vesta Home to handle the design and staging, combining references to classic Hollywood interiors with a more relaxed Californian look.
Terraces, a swimming pool and views across Los Angeles
Outside, brick steps descend from the house towards a rectangular swimming pool set within a stone-paved area. The surrounding terraces and landscaped sections of the grounds create several outdoor spaces, with views extending across Los Angeles. The arrangement makes the grounds an important part of the estate, rather than leaving the pool and garden as secondary features.Reportedly, the property occupies approximately 6.5 acres in the Hollywood Hills, giving it a sizeable footprint in a part of Los Angeles known for hillside homes and views over the city. Its combination of extensive grounds, multiple buildings and established landscaping distinguishes it from smaller residential properties in the surrounding area. After Mirren and Hackford moved to the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe in early 2020, the Hollywood Hills house appeared on the sales market several times. In 2026, it was offered as a rental for $30,000 per month. The decision to return to a sale listing places the focus once again on finding a permanent owner.
The price has fallen since the 2021 listing
The current $12 million asking price is $6.5 million below the figure attached to the property when it first went on the market in 2021. The latest listing is being handled by Jonas Heller and Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency. The redesigned interiors form part of the renewed effort to attract interest, alongside the property’s historical associations and its extensive grounds.
