HYDERABAD: The minor son of an MLA of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has been named as an accused in connection with the alleged gang rape of the 17-year-old girl in Jubilee Hills on May 28.
While briefing the press conference on Tuesday evening, Hyderabad Police commissioner CV Anand confirmed that the minor was declared as accused no. 6.
“All five juveniles along with one adult have been arrested. Saduddin Malik is the only adult. Of the accused, four have already been produced before a juvenile court, the remaining two will be produced today,” said the police commissioner.

Today two juveniles, who are kin of the MLA, were arrested.
The victim was molested by a couple of accused even inside the pub, where they partied.
A day ago, a BJP MLA was booked for allegedly disclosing details related to the victim.
On May 28, the girl was picked up by the five accused from a pub in Jubilee Hills from where they travelled in two different cars to reach a bakery in Banjara Hills. From there, except the MLA’s son and a few others, the rest got into an SUV where the girl was allegedly raped.
Girl records statement before magistrate
Police on Monday recorded the statement of the gang rape survivor before a magistrate under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
The action has come amid growing pressure on the police to ensure that the accused — many of them from influential political families — are convicted.
A statement given under 164 CrPC is significant for the prosecution as the accused can be convicted based on it. Even if a witness turns hostile, the trial would not get adversely impacted.
After the registration of an FIR at Jubilee Hills police station against five youths, three being minors, the police had recorded the statement of the survivor under Section 162 of the CrPC at the Bharosa Centre, a support centre of women and children who are victims of a crime.
Video of rape survivor on social media causes outrage
Videos of Jubilee Hills rape survivor — in the company of some of the accused — being circulated on social media, has led to outrage among denizens, especially parents. Condemning it they said maligning the image of a minor, who has lived through such a harrowing experience, is in bad taste.
“It is disgusting to see people indulging in character assassination, circulating videos of the girl,” said a parent.
Another parent said: “Why are people so judgemental. Instead of ensuring the survivor gets justice, people are busy commenting on her character and questioning why she went to the pub. This should stop.”
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
